Plainwell Earns 6th Place Finish at D3 State Meet

Plainwell High School Girl's Swimming and Diving Team took 6th Place with 111.5 points at the Division 3 State Championships held at the Holland Aquatic Center. This is the third year in a row that the team has finished in the 6th position. All-Stater Lindsay Wiederhold led the charge with a pair of runner-up places in the 200 and 500 Freestyles. Her times of 1:56.11 and 5:07.96 shattered her previous team records set at last year's State Meet. The 500 Freestyle was a highly contested race with the Cranbrook swimmer and Lindsay dueling the entire race. They easily outdistanced the rest of the field. Leah VanderBoon swam to an All-State 8th place in the 100 Freestyle with a time of :54.8. The 200 and 400 All-State Freesytle Relay teams finished 6th and 7th respectively. The two teams consisted of Leah VanderBoon, Lindsay Wiederhold, Megan VanderBoon and Teresa Thiel. Cameron Monroe finished 9th in the 1 meter Diving event and the Medley Relay Team of Audrey VanderBoon, Blair Cornell, Leah VanderBoon, and Teresa Thiel finished 13th. Blair Cornell finished 23rd in the 100 Breastroke.

This season proved to be very successful with a very young team. Next year's team will have much more experience and depth. Leah VanderBoon and Alison Goyings will be missed and we wish them the best of luck and applaude them for their great swimming and leadership for the many years they swam in the Plainwell programs. Great season to all the girls!!
