Plainwell Completes Terrific Season With 6th Place Finish At The State Meet

The Plainwell High School Girls Swimming and Diving Team finished their season with a 6th Place finish at the Division 3 State Championships at Eastern Michigan University. The meet was highlighted by All State performances from Karli Cornell, Rachel Varley, Brittany Hendrickson, Leah Vanderboon, and Lindsay Wiederhold. It was a great effort that complimented an undefeated dual meet season and Conference Championship.

Lindsay Wiederhold broke two school records (500 and 200 Freestyle) on her way to 3rd and 4th place finishes. Karli Cornell placed 5th in the 100 Freestyle and 11th in the 50 Freestyle. Leah VanderBoon finished 15th in the 100 Butterfly event. Cameron Monroe finished 20th in the diving competition. Rachel Varley placed 23rd in the 100 Backstroke, Blair Cornell finished 23rd in the 100 Breastroke, and Jessica Chapman finished 30th in the 200 Individual Medley. The Medley Relay team of Rachel Varley, Blair Cornell, Leah VanderBoon, and Brittany Hendrickson placed 10th. The 200 Freestyle Relay team swam to an All State finish of 4th place. The team consisted of Leah VanderBoon, Brittany Hendrickson, Lindsay Wiederhold, and Karli Cornell. The 400 Freestyle Relay team broke a school record (and achieved a first for Coach Dubois of breaking 3:40) while finishing All State and 4th place in a photo finish with two other teams. The relay team consisted of Rachel Varley, Leah VanderBoon, Lindsay Wiederhold, and Karli Cornell. Varley and Cornell capped their terrific high school swimming careers with a record setting performance in this event. Many of the girls swam their personal best times at the State Meet. The Plainwell High School Girls Swimming and Diving Team had another terrific season and we congratulate them on all their achievements. Many of them were event leaders or ranked in the Greater Kalamazoo Swim/Dive Honor Roll (Top 5). This team set a very high standard for future teams to strive for.
