Plainwell Conference Championship Celebration

Plainwell Wins 7th Straight League Championship!

The Plainwell Trojan Girl's Swim and Dive Team continued their domination in route to a convincing win at the Southwestern and Central Swim Conference Championships on Saturday. The Alma and Allegan teams provided stiff competition, however the Trojans again used their superior depth to win the Conference Championship for a seventh straight year.

The fireworks began with the trip to Allegan on Saturday morning for the finals. The team was escorted through the streets of Plainwell with horns blaring by a police escort. The meet began with a high intensity Medley Relay with Plainwell winning by 0.09 seconds. The team of Rachel Varley, Blair Cornell, Leah VanderBoon, and Brittany Hendrickson came from behind to edge the relay team from Alma. This exciting race and victory set the stage for the rest of the meet.

Individual Conference Champions from Plainwell included Leah VanderBoon is the 50 Freestyle, Karli Cornell in the 100 Freestyle, Lindsay Wiederhold in the 500 Freestyle, and Cameron Monroe in the Diving competition. Cameron's point total qualified her for All American Consideration status. Relay Conference Champions were the Medley Relay (listed above) and the 400 Freestyle Relay team consisting of Rachel Varley, Brittany Hendrickson, Lindsay Wiederhold, and Karli Cornell. Karli and Leah nabbed additional second place finishes in their individual events as did the 200 Freestyle Relay team of Maggie Murgittroyd, Leah VanderBoon, Lindsay Wiederhold, and Karli Cornell. Every swimmer and diver contributed to this great team victory!

The meet concluded with another Plainwell victory celebration and Coaches John Dubois and Tara Cornell being deposited into the Allegan Pool. The senior swimmers ended their high school careers with undefeated seasons all four years and four Conference Championships. Their legacy will be a feat for future teams to strive for.

The Division 3 State Championships (Eastern Michigan University) await the swimmers and the Regional Diving Finals (East Grand Rapids) await the divers. Karli Cornell, Rachel Varley, Brittany Hendrickson, Leah VanderBoon, Lindsay Wiederhold, Jessica Chapman, Cameron Monroe, Blair Cornell, and Audrey VanderBoon look to bring Plainwell a high finish at the State Championship Meet. Plainwell Girls Complete Undefeated Dual Meet Season

The Plainwell Girl's Swim/Dive Team defeated Otsego 103-56 to complete an undefeated dual meet season. The Trojans roll into the Conference Meet with a 10-0 record. The Conference Meet will be held on Friday, November 6th and Saturday, November 7th at the Allegan High School pool. Outstanding swims at the Otsego meet were performed by Maggie Murgittroyd, Ally Seiler, Karli Cornell, Jessica Chapman, Audrey VanderBoon, and Blair Kelly. Plainwell Defeats Marshall on Senior Night

The Plainwell Girl's Swimming and Diving Team continued their trek towards another undefeated season with a convincing 111-71 victory over Marshall last night at the Plainwell pool. The MVP's of the night were the Seniors, as they all had a terrific evening of swimming and recognition. The seniors are: Kathleen Boylan, Karli Cornell, Helen Dolley, Brianne Crandall, Jessica Lamore, Brittany Hendrickson, Maggie Murgittroyd, Rachel Varley, and Taylor Waldecki. They were also honored with Coach Dubois sharing their individual and swim/dive team accomplishments during their high school career. They are all outstanding student athletes as presented by Coach Dubois and we all wish them much success in their future endeavors! The swim/dive parents were also honored and introduced at the meet. Rachel Varley qualified for the State Meet in the 500 Yard Freestyle and Karli Cornell came within a half second of the 100 Yard Breaststroke record.

The next meet is home against Otsego on Tuesday. A few of the girls will be attending the MISCA meet at Eastern Michigan University on Saturday. This meet brings together all 3 divisions and the competition is very strong.

Plainwell Rolls Past Allegan

The H1N1 flu could not stop the Trojans as they defeated an up and coming Allegan team 113-70 last night. Plainwell won all but one event on their way to another victory. Great swims were turned in by Brianne Crandall, Teresa Thiel, Brittany Hendrickson, Lindsay Wiederhold, and Taylor Waldecki. Cameron Monroe was solid again on the diving board with a 1st place score of 222.35. The night's two most exciting races were the 100 Freestyle with Brittany Hendrickson edging her Allegan rival by 4/100's of a second and the 1-2 finish by the 200 Freestyle Relay teams that edged the Allegan relay team by .09 seconds. The end of that race was a "photo finish" with the 1st thru 3rd place finishers separated by a mere .19 seconds. Plainwell takes on Marshall at home on Thursday night (the last home meet of the year). Our fabulous senior class will be honored at the meet.

Plainwell Wins Another To Stay Undefeated

The Plainwell High School Girl's Swim and Dive Team easily defeated St. Joseph 108-76 on Thursday evening. The meet was highlighted by the divers who again finished 1-2. Cameron Monroe had her season's best score total with 236.3 points and Reina Wicklund was terrific as well with a point total of 160.85. The swimmers performed well with a number of invidual and relay 1st place finishes achieved. Double winners included Karli Cornell, Leah VanderBoon, Brittany Hendrickson, and Blair Cornell. Other outstanding swimming times were recorded by Ally Seiler, Jessica Chapman, Brianne Crandall, Jessica Lamore, and Kathleen Boylan. Karli Cornell had a new state qualifying swim in the 100 Breaststroke of 1:12.30.

The Trojans have two home meets next week: Tuesday vs. Allegan and Thursday (Senior Night) vs. Marshall. Come out and cheer on one of the best swim/dive teams in the State of Michigan!

Plainwell Downs Albion

Plainwell Girl's Swim & Dive team traveled to Albion on Tuesday and came away victorious. There were many 1-2 finishes and the team performed well. Plainwell was led by Audrey VanderBoon who finished with two individual 1st place finishes. Other good swims were performed by Molly Boylan, Brianne Crandall, Taylor Waldecki, and Cora Spencer. The Trojans travel to St. Joseph on Thursday.
